Connect SimulArt to Shopify (2022 update)
SimulArt can connect and create custom items for Shopify stores thru their API. In order to get API credentials, you must first create a custom app in your Shopify control panel.
From your Shopify admin, go to "Apps" and "Develop apps". If it is the first time you access this section, you will need to "Allow custom app development" and "Allow custom app development".
Click "Create an app" and enter "SimulArt" as the app name.
Click "Select Configure Admin API scopes", and check the "Products" read and write permissions.
Click "Install app".
Under the "API Credentials" tab, copy the Admin API access token. This key can only be accessed one time so please make sure to copy it before navigating away from the page. If you do not copy it you will need to click uninstall and then reinstall and copy the new key.
Go to "Web store" under the settings menu in your SimulArt account, activate Shopify and enter your Shopify API access token along with your Shopify domain.
When correct Shopify API credentials are entered, the top menu changes and clicking the SimulArt "Add to cart" button creates a new item in your Shopify store and redirects the customer to Shopify for checkout.
The product details and image download link are added to the description. Viewing the description in your admin will provide you all necessary information. You can also include the description content to your cart, email templates, or anywhere you want the info displayed.
We suggest adding a "Frame Designer" link pointing to your SimulArt store in your Shopify menus and home page to allow your customers to design items in SimulArt and come back to your store when they are done. Custom domains and subdomains may be setup/used for better URL consistency.
Important!
On the first connection, a "SimulArt Hidden Items" collection is created to hold all the items
created by SimulArt. Custom items created by users may contain personnal images and are set to "hidden". Please make sure to keep customer items hidden in your Shopify setup.
Note
Products added by SimulArt may appear in Catalog (collections/all) unless you change the settings or code a specific rule. Please see this Shopify tutorial:
https://shopify.dev/tutorials/customize-theme-change-collections-page
It may be easier to simply remove the "Catalog" option from the menu and add specific collections instead.
When checking out with Shopify, order details are not saved in SimulArt and PDF invoices and work orders are not generated.
